With the rapid development of artificial intelligence products in China, many intelligent products require the use of infrared filters for infrared sensing. It can be said that infrared filters are indispensable optical components in intelligent products.

Many customers who are new to infrared filters consult our company about the use of this material. Because they have just come into contact with it, many aspects of their knowledge are unclear. As a manufacturer of infrared filters, we will tell you some questions about this product.

1、 Material of infrared filter
Generally speaking, infrared filter materials are divided into glass and plastic, with acrylic material being the most widely used in most smart products. Infrared filters made of acrylic materials have the characteristics of strong plasticity, easy processing, low cost, and wide application range, and have been widely used in the field of intelligent products.

2、 Thickness of infrared filter
At present, the thicknesses of infrared filters are 1.0mm, 1.2mm, 1.5mm, 2.0mm, and 3.0mm, respectively.

3、 Hardness of infrared filter
The infrared filter made of acrylic material has a hardness of 2 hours and can be hardened for 4 hours. The highest hardness can reach 6 hours. According to the requirements of general smart products, except for some products with special hardness requirements, most infrared filters with a hardness of 2 hours are sufficient.

4、 Band of infrared filter
The main function of an infrared filter is to filter out visible light (natural light) through infrared radiation. Infrared is a type of light that is invisible to the naked eye. Generally speaking, the operating frequency range of smart products is between 850nm and 950nm. The wavelength range of acrylic infrared filters is 700nm-1600nm, which means that the wavelength range of acrylic infrared filters starts from 700nm. Through infrared, the peak is between 850nm and 1100nm, and the infrared transmittance can reach 92%, fully meeting the requirements.

Fifth, are there high transmittance infrared filters available?
Some infrared radar rangefinders, in order to make the infrared sensing more sensitive, the ordinary 92% infrared transmittance cannot meet their requirements. The required transmittance for product functionality exceeds 96%. So, what can be achieved? At present, there is only one way to solve this problem, which is to apply an optical evaporation film on the acrylic infrared filter to increase the infrared transmittance by more than 96%.

6、 Will the hardening of infrared filters affect their transmittance?
Some customers are concerned that the hardening treatment of infrared filters may affect their penetration rate. In fact, the principle of hardening infrared filters is to improve their hardness and physical properties by adding a layer of hardening agent on their surface to increase their surface hardness, but it will not have a slight impact on the transmittance of the infrared filter.

7、 What are the processing methods for infrared filters
Some customers may ask, can the shape of the infrared filter be processed according to their needs, and what machine is used for cutting? The material of the infrared filter is acrylic, which can be laser cut or CNC processed. In general, two-dimensional shapes or dimensional accuracy requirements for flat surfaces are not very high and can be cut by laser, while three-dimensional shapes and higher dimensional accuracy requirements require CNC machining.
